ACDGC Moving Forward!

ACDGC’s Nate Taylor gave me a call today and his message to me, combined with the outstanding positive response to Luke Potts impassioned plea in the Wichita KS Disc Golf Facebook page has given me great hope for the future of the Air Capital Disc Golf Club. As a result, the current board has agreed that we should set a time a place for re-convening our meeting as soon as feasible.

So, what did Nate have to say that gave me such hope? He asked me what he needed to do to put his name in as a candidate for President of the ACDGC!

He was hoping to be able to mount a write in campaign, but I had to tell him that our bylaws specifically do no allow for write-in candidates. Furthermore, to be considered a candidate an eligible member must enter their name by January 2nd. HOWEVER, the bylaws do provide a way for the board to fill a position that comes open in the current year and we had already planned to use that mechanism if a reliable volunteer could be found.

Here is the way it will work. Once the club members who have already fulfilled the requirements to be on the ballot are confirmed by a majority of the vote from at least 20% of the club membership we can nominate and approve, by a unanimous vote, a member of our choosing. I have consulted with the other board members and we are all enthusiastic to have Nate Taylor as President of the ACDGC. So, in effect, a vote for the members already volunteering for VP, Treasurer, Parks Liaison, Events Coordinator and Communications Director amounts to a vote for Nate Taylor for President!

I cannot express how pleased I am to have Nate take over this position. And that is not because I am tired or frustrated. On the contrary I am happy to have the time to dedicate to the job as communications director. To do it right is very demanding on one’s time and it has been difficult for the younger members with jobs and families to keep on top of it. I was just in a position to do so when I retired but the need for the club then was for a President as Mike Schoenhofer’s family and career demands meant he needed to step down.

More important than that, however, is the fact that I have long seen the need for the club to have younger leadership to take us successfully into the next phase. I have already seen Nate’s dedication to the sport and his reliability in fulfilling his duties when he served as club secretary. He will make an outstanding President!

So, I am working now to secure the WATER Center again for a meeting this coming Sunday, January 20 at 1:30 PM. As soon as I get confirmation that we can use the conference room I will make a short announcement on Facebook. Please, attend if at all possible and if not request a ballot and I will email it to you, or you can still download them from the dropbox link below. https://www.dropbox.com/s/q1rmp06xwqtve0c/ACDGC%20Candidate%20Bio%20Sheet%202019.pdf?dl=0
