ACDGC 2017 Review and Goals for 2018

2017 especially busy for the ACDGC

Despite hosting fewer tournaments and other events. Our energy and resources were focused on adding, expanding and enhancing disc golf facilities in Wichita and surrounding communities. In this regard, we exceeded our goals. By doing so we are making it possible for us to host more events in the future, including PDGA A-Tier and Major events that will simultaneously benefit the economies of the Greater Wichita Metropolitan Area and the area’s disc golf community.

  • Facilities/Events
    • Cessna Park (west section) Disc Golf Course
      • ACDGC and Wichita Parks prepared park for install
      • ACDGC purchased and delivered 19 baskets and 37 sleeves
      • ACDGC and Wichita Parks installed baskets with alt pin placements
      • ACDGC installed sign posts provided by Wichita Parks
      • Continued course clean up and maintenance including trimming, spreading chips and rotating baskets.
      • Wichita Parks approves ACDGC plan to install additional pin and tee pad placements in the eastern section of Cessna Park to allow the course to be enlarged for championship level tournaments.
      • ACDGC Course design for expanded Championship course.
      • ACDGC Consult with Wichita Parks for additional trees
      • Hosted alternate and regular fall ACDGC league events and 2017 Membership Drive
      • Volunteer hours: 158

  • Millbrook Park West Disc Golf Course
    • ACDGC completed and submitted course design to Wichita Parks
    • ACDGC consulted with Wichita Parks on trees and parking and installation.
    • ACDGC and Wichita Parks prepared course for installation
    • ACDGC purchased 36 Monkey Trap sleeves.
    • ACDGC and Wichita Parks repaired as needed and modified baskets removed from Oak Park to utilize new sleeves.
    • ACDGC prepared sign posts removed from Herman Hill in 2015 for install
    • ACDGC and Wichita Parks installed 18 baskets, tee sign posts, and alternate pins
    • ACDGC and Wichita Parks plan and prepare the park for revision of course to resolve a neighbor’s complaint.

  • Oak/North Riverside Disc Golf Course
    • ACDGC requested and Wichita Parks approved planning for tee and caution signs
    • Wichita Parks removed one remaining basket (hole11) and tee pad (hole 9)
    • ACDGC Installed remaining alternate pins on holes 11, 12, and 17.
    • ACDGC continued course clean up and maintenance including trimming, spreading chips and rotating baskets.
    • Wichita Parks approves ACDGC plan to install additional pin and tee pad placements in eastern sections of North Riverside to allow for enlargement of course for championship level tournaments.
    • ACDGC Course Design for Championship expansion.
    • Installed concrete markers at practice basket for Disc Golf Training Ground putting game proof of concept.
    • Hosted league events and two PDGA B-tier Tournaments, the Doo Dah Open and Keeper of the Chains, as part of the KDGA Oz Tour Schedule.

  • Herman Hill Disc Golf Park
    • ACDGC continued course clean up and maintenance including trimming, replacement of 3 tee signs, twice repaired the bench at hole 15  that was damaged by a vehicle, reset 4 loose pin placements and rotating basket placements.
    • Hosted regularly scheduled ACDGC League events, 2 PDGA B-tier tournaments, the Doo Dah and Round Up, as part of the KDGA Oz Tour Schedule
    • Volunteer hours: 120
    • Expenditures other than event expenses: $35

 

  • Clapp Memorial Public Golf Course
    • Designed and presented to Wichita Parks and Rec. a proposal for a pay-to-play championship level disc golf course utilizing un-used areas of the traditional golf course.
    • Hosted a trial run for Wichita Parks and using portable baskets to set up a temporary course on the initial design.
    • Modified design of course according to feedback and assessment following the trial run.
    • Wichita Parks and Rec gives approval and commits to the installation of pay-for-play championship level course at Clapp Memorial.
    • Volunteer hours: 115
    • Expenditures: event expenses: $46.80 (printing)

 

  • Cowskin Creek Disc Golf Park, Colwich
    • Consulted with Colwich officials and employees about maintenance and future course improvements and events.
    • ACDGC Installed 3rd tee positions on all 18 holes
    • ACDGC continued clean up, maintenance and clearing of course
    • Hosted ACDGC/KDGA 2017 Food Drive and () ACDGC league events
    • Solicited donations for course improvement
      • Bill Paulson pitched Play It Again Sports and received a commitment of $2,000 over 3 months (Dec. 2017, Jan. 2018, Feb. 2018) to the ACDGC course improvement fund. Distribution of funds to be determined by 2018 ACDGC Board.
      • Ducks Flying Discs has indicated an interest in sponsoring at least one hole.

  • Stone Creek Disc Golf Park, Derby
    • Consulted with Derby Parks and Rec on upgrading baskets to championship level
    • Solicited donations for course improvement
      • Marcus Anderson pitched numerous local businesses. Received $500 from Ronald J Wells Insurance Agency and a commitment from Ducks Flying Discs to sponsor at least one hole.
      • Bill Paulson pitched Play It Again Sports and received a commitment of $2,000 over 3 months (Dec. 2017, Jan. 2018, Feb. 2018) to the ACDGC course improvement fund. Distribution of funds to be determined by 2018 ACDGC Board.
    • Continued maintenance and clean up of disc golf course including spreading chips and trimming.
    • Hosted regularly scheduled ACDGC League events.
    • Volunteer hours: 70
    • Expenditures other than event expenses: $30

 

  • Workshops, community outreach
    • Rose Hill community center Play Day
    • Summer camp at Evergreen Rec Center
    • Expenditures: Rose Hill, $10.50. Evergreen, $7.50
    • Man hours: Rose Hill, 22. Evergreen, 14

 

  • Other
    • Submitted proposal to host 2019 PDGA Pro Worlds
      • Coordination and planning with Visit Wichita and Wichita Parks and Rec
      • Completion of ACDGC portion of written proposal
      • Completion of ACDGC portion of additional information request from PDGA
      • Proposal well accepted by PDGA, although the event was awarded to Peoria, Ill.
      • Received positive feedback from PDGA and suggestions on how to improve our position for future submissions.
